Main activities of our ministry during this past year:

·        Teaching in two centers for training men and women for the ministries

·        Leading two neighborhood Bible study groups

·        Preparing young people for church through Confirmation Classes

·        Membership as they prepare to make public confession of their faith in the Lord Jesus

·        Speaking and holding Bible studies for university students

·        Counseling men and women with special problems

·        Eva is leading a ladies’ Bible study every Tuesday

·        Reaching unemployed ladies with Vibgyor Project

·        Reaching out to our apartment families living in the same building

Some specific accomplishments in the areas described above:

·        Over 80 men and women being trained for full-time ministry in the two centers. The trainees are from India , Nepal and Myanmar , and it is exciting to see their potential to be Pastors and evangelists in some of the neediest areas for the gospel and church leadership.

·        University students keen to learn the Word have been helped in their search for Biblical answers for the questions they had. They have been so hungry for the Word of God.

·        A man struggling with gay tendencies has found tremendous liberation through counseling. Praise the Lord! Other new believers have found fellowship, prayer and discussion helpful for their spiritual growth!  A young Hindu man has been helped in knowing the truth of our faith in the Lord by answering his questions.

·        Several trainees for the ministry have been counseled in their understanding of finding God’s will for their future ministries etc.

·        Eva has been very encouraged by the response of the ladies in the Bible study group and their enthusiasm for the Word.

·        Ladies through Vibgyor project has helped many unemployed ladies to find a means of income as well as an opportunity for bridge building to share about the Lord! We are very grateful for the folks at Peoples for donating yarn and needles for this project!

·        Our Hindu neighbors have expressed gratitude for the physical help given to them and for answered prayers when we prayed for some crucial problems they were facing health wise and for family issues. We continue to pray for their salvation!

Special burdens:

·        To focus prayer for broken families and young people.

·        Eva wants to reach out more to the ladies in our apartment complex.

·        More involvement in church ministry such as George’s assisting and accompanying the Pastor on Pastoral calls/visitations. George's ordination at Wakeshma has been well received!

·        Among the ministry struggles would be disappointment when a person has been delivered by the Lord from suicide and hopelessness and has been helping Eva in the project, but then is not completely leaving the gods of the past--because of family, cultural and neighbor’s pressure.  Above all we know it is the work of the devil, so please pray that this lady whose name is Suman will completely come out of her bondage to other gods.  We know it takes time and she needs to respond with conviction to the Holy Spirit.

Upcoming “projects”:

·        Sunny and Dolly would like to enroll in online Bible courses to graduate from Trinity Seminary, Indiana, which only has online-accredited courses. They have been very keen to study Biblical courses in addition to their secular studies. Can the youth of the church take this as a possible long-term project?  I will give the details: Trinity seminary is willing to give them 50% scholarship. Initially they need to deposit $250 each to enroll for the Bachelors program. George would also like to join this program, if possible for Doctoral studies, but Sunny and Dolly are our priority.

·        Sunday school and Bible study materials that are out dated and not being used by the church may kindly be sent for the church we attend. It will be useful for children and youth Sunday school as well as for adult Bible studies.

·        The need of a reliable transportation for ministry—our car of 19 years needs to be changed.

Thank you all you dear Wakeshma family for your love expressed to the Lord and to us by welcoming me into the Wakeshma Community Church family as a member and for his ordination.  I understand I am the first missionary that has been ever ordained at Wakeshma!

We are also thankful for the wonderful computer (laptop) that was gifted to me by you folks that makes it possible for me to keep in touch with you among others and enables George to work on various projects for my teaching at the training center and children for their assignments as well.  We are so very grateful to you folks and especially Pastor Dave and Joshua who have spent quite a lot of time to research the kind of computer we needed, so I am sending this Field Update with the same computer you gifted us!

Opportunities for ministry are wonderful in India with the great need of the people to come to know the Lord Jesus and turn from their idol worship. Satan has been working overtime with us as a family and at the ministry so please pray fervently for us!

Love in Him and His service,
George and Eva Verghese

NOTE:  We were glad for President Bush’s visit to India !
